As a child, I learned to play piano through the MYC program and so, once my sons were born, I knew immediately I wanted to offer them the opportunity to learn music too. Last year, we enrolled our oldest son in MYC Sunbeams 1 with Emma and we were impressed from the very start. Emma took the time to meet with him one-on-one to make sure that the program would be a good fit for him and for our family. He had never seen sheet music nor touched the piano keys. Since then, watching him explore and learn to play piano has been pure magic. Emma is wonderful – she is patient, inclusive, kind and encouraging. Her classes are relaxed and fun. Her ability to find ways to capture the kids’ attention and engage them in learning is incredible. As a mom of two young boys herself, she understands the hustle of day-to-day life and offers creative ways to make music practice fun at home, too. Last Spring, when the COVID pandemic forced everyone to stay at home, Emma was able to pivot almost seamlessly to online classes, which in our household, was the highlight of our weeks. We attended both the Sunshine 1 class and the Sunbeams 1 class. We were very impressed with their ability to both read and play music at the end of the session. Emma engages the children with interactive games and memorable experiences to foster their learning. My daughter just completed MYC after four years. MYC teaches the fundamentals of music (and more) through games and other fun activities. It requires work from both the kids and the parents. But once completed, students are well grounded in the fundamentals of piano playing and music theory. Emma Skeete has been a fantastic teacher. She is fun, flexible, knowledgeable, and loving. I could not recommend her more.
